"100 places to remember before they disappear"

maldives, indian ocean

i could have cried when i found this article this morning on newsweek.com

it basically lists one hundred locations across all continents that, as a result of climate change (argh!), will become irrepairable for human use or completely disappear all together.
and it'll all be happening very soon.

the author, fareed zakaria, commented:
"it is also some of the most beautiful places on earth and a reminder that they are magical, fragile, and, ultimately, transient."

here are some examples of the locations that will be tragically effected:

the battery, nyc, usa
that famous southern shoreline of manhattan will face more frequent flooding where water could rise up to 10 feet. this usually only happened once in a century.

the alps, austria
the extremely popular ski slope destination for tourists is rapidly decreasing in size as the snow continues to melt.

paris, france
summer 2003 was one of the hottest summers on record in france with 14,800 heat-related deaths. these heat waves are likely to become increasingly worse and frequent in years to come.

venice, italy
the "floating city" has sunk by 9 inches over the past century alone and could soon face 10 feet of floods.

london, uk
the giant river thames runs all the way through the heart of the city. and is it's biggest threat. rising sea levels means the thames is likely to cause huge flooding for the uk's capital.

you can actually buy 100 places to remember before they disappear as a book by following the links on newsweek.com
the book is a reminder of what is at stake if we continue this arrogant complacency in the face of a rapidly changing climate.

besides this doom & gloom, i'll leave you with a little optimism!

want to do your bit to save the planet?
recycle clothes a'la vivienne westwood :)

vivienne's top tips for being green & creative:

1. wear your clothes upside down/ back to front
2. wear your boyfriend's clothes
3. buy clothes made of organic fabric
4. turn trash into fashion (trashion - ha!)
5. don't buy any clothes for atleast 6 months, get creative, and then if you want to buy one thing make sure it's vivienne westwood, of course!

what's your personal reaction to the article above on climate change?
are you liking dame viv's tips on recycling clothes?

Don't worry it's not the end of the world. BUt then again with those 3 idiots Brown, Cameron and Clegg busy fighting about immigration, joining the EU, etc they might neglect the most important thing being the planet we live on. Hey on the bright side, Holland is below sea level but they're cool as cucumbers ;-)

This is sad and scares me. I try to do my part whenever I can (not waste water, use re-usable cloth bags, etc.) but this is still really scary.
