lfw begins

london fashion week
fall&winter2010

day one
one word to sum up the first day of this season's fashion week? - depressing.
too many collections were so drab. black. goth. rips. ghost. ERGH.
hannah marshall, felderfelder, jean-pierre braganza - i am looking at you.

hannah marshall (left) and felderfelder (right)

i know copious amounts will love this waking-the-dead attire,
but me? no. i've never warmed to goth.
just as i refuse to warm to the bumbag (why, oh why?!).
i do not care if it's winter - i want colour,

or atleast nudes!

aminaka wilmont's beautiful blues shone through the darkness, however.
the prints completely embodied the collection, reminding me of a serene coastline.
and the beach hair went perfectly.

shipwrecked fashion at aminaka wilmont

note the fur shoulders and lots of cut-away at sass & bide

sass & bide

and finally, for day one, the one to watch:
hakaan

he's made his way into the fashion world
after being awarded first prize at the
'young fashion designer contest'

i love this dress. and natalia vodianova modelling
at your first show isn't half bad!

"a new star is born", hakaan

day two

so, what did day two bring?
well, unluckily for me, yet more white powder,
black lipstick and all-round goth fests.

there were a few gems, however,
aswell as one very big diamond.

the topshop unique collection.
feral animal parts sticking out of heads,
boy-scout uniform, fluffy monobrows.
it was all very weird and ugly, yet somehow beautiful.

i hate to buy into the already ginormous topshop brand,
but this collection really impressed me, and i haven't rated past unique shows.
the knitwear is ingenious.
often completely impractical, yes, but ingenious.

unique f/w10

and last, but certainly not least,
hoorayy for mark fast who, once again,
used larger sized models in his show

'plus-size' models at mark fast, recognise this bountiful beauty from his s/s10 collection?

cannot wait to see the day three reviews.
vivienne westwood. need i say more?

nyfw: highlights and lowlights

new york fashion week sees all the big names,
ralph lauren, calvin klein, oscar de la renta...
and now, the one that i was truly psyched about, a new name on the nyc block.
the olsens' first fashion parade.

backstage, the sisters said,
"we wanted to do something low-key and straight to the point."
and that's exactly what it was.

with their signature classic colour pallette, luxe fabrics and understated yet edgy cuts,
there were so surprises.
but i liked it.

PD loves...

this boldly cut collarless, belted wrap coat, with leggings and glad sandals.
casual luxe, acheived flawlessly.

the natural look. i love the sheer top on the left.
reminds me a little of chloe s/s10.

this matte denim-blue python fabric.
very unique and so subtle.

overall, the twins didn't fail to deliver - stunning clothes in the styles their known for.
and how beautiful is that bouquet of flowers in the background?
i also love the brown leather rope-belt that was used throughout.

more key moments of the week, for me, include:

the glamourous, sexy and safari-chic looks at michael kors

as always, the dresses at marchesa. all of them. i love georgina chapman.

where were you when you found out?
memorable for all - the tragic death of sartorial legend, alexander mcqueen,
resulting in the cancelling of his show.

some hot street style - hows that for accessorising?

and, of course, what no fashion week can be without - a splash of anna wintour. in fur.

so, there we have it -
stunning moments,
exciting moments,
and extremely sad moments.
and now comes london fashion week... phew...

Site of the Month (0.2)

you know the feeling.
when you're flicking through you're average ELLE and feel chanel and ysl and stella-bloody-mccartney burning into your impoverished hands.
you want these beautiful clothes.
but, like everyone normal, you just can't handle the price tag.

the solution? either don't cause yourself the envious pain and ban yourself from fashion magazines,
or, realistically, get yourself over to a website such as cocosa.com and buy glamorous designer garments from the likes of chloe & zac posen at insanely cheap prices
... by designer label standards, anyway.

they say:
"cocosa is an invitation-only fashion club offering access to an array of private sales, each running for 48 hours and brimming with an unrivalled selection of luxury brands up to 80% off."

reasons to love cocosa:

1. the brands offered truly are unrivalled.
i only need to mention karl lagerfeld to prove that point.

2. the garments they choose to feature are ones you would never have imagined to be put on sale. they're all stunning pieces anyone would desire to own.

3. amazing discounts:

and you haven't seen anything yet.
sales coming soon to cocosa:

ugg australia
graeme black
vivienne tam
see by chloe
linda farrow

... and more!

(nb. the welcome page offers you to insert an 'invitation code' or to be added to the waiting list. however, i added myself to the waiting list and was given permission to join the very next day.)

happy shopping :)

the glossy review, february

alexa chung makes her vogue debut this month, proclaiming her obsession with all-that-is denim:
"My newfound appetite for all things dungaree is a worry."
she still hasn't won me over yet, there's just something about her... perhaps the manly voice.

stunning english model, amber le bon, makes the tatler cover
in what i think is my new favourite dress of all time (see my post titled 'the most beautiful dress i have ever seen').
i hadn't heard of her before i saw this striking cover. she is apparently the daughter of duran duran's lead singer (hence the headline).
i would never have thought her english - she appears italian. so beautiful!

this month's vanity fair showcases the new faces of hollywood. on the cover: abbie cornish, kristen stewart & carey mulligan

my ultimate favourite, as always, elle.
oh elle... with the lovely liv tyler.
she does us pale faces proud! stunning.

and finally, harper's bazaar takes a look at the career of kate moss, now spanning 20 years. i've never been an admirer of kate. ever.
but you have to hand it to her, purely for surviving such a tough industry for more than two decades.

your favourite covershoot this month?

getting excited for london fashion week (:

blogger fashionnerdic is pretty in pastel, almost all h&m.

beyonce in this month's w magazine.

another sartorialist snap.

u-need uniqlo...

...a label that often gets lost in the shopping sphere.
it's almost as cheap as primark-chic, but has added chic.

it's absolutely prime for basics like
clean-cut tailored blazers,
cashmere knitwear (in a zillion gorgeous colours)
and that all-important trench coat, key for this spring.
and all at amazing prices!
PD loves...

the light trench coat - 49.99

the soft jersey tailored jacket - 29.99

the ponte zip up sleeveless dress - 24.99
the boat necked striped jumper - 9.99

uniqlo says -
"Open the Future.
Luxury will be simplicity.
Purity in design, beauty and comfort for all.
Quality for the people.
Basics are the common language.
The future is here."

the grammies' golden girl

the aftermath of the grammies is always hilarious.
who looked amazing? who looked hideous? who sung with who? who french-kissed madonna?who flashed their boob?
you get my drift..
surprisingly, there weren't as many fashion faux pas this time round
(bar britney... but that's pretty standard)
even lady gaga didn't make me shriek in horror, and that really is a first.
however, i'm picking one and i'm standing by beyonce.
not only because i adore her in every way possible
but also because, well... let's be honest,
she looked HOT.

beyonce with rihanna, in the stunning armani prive dress she wore to accept her six trophies
